Everything you need to know

The Marathon happens  in Kampala and the participants “runners” have 5km to run from Kitante Primary school and back, the 10km runners followed the same route twice.

If you’re coming from abroad: Fly to Entebbe (Uganda) 

  • Kampala is located in the central region of Uganda.
 
 
Fly, drive or take a bus to Kampala
get to Kampala from Entebbe by taking a private taxi, a shared shuttle, a public minibus, or by driving. A private taxi is the most convenient but expensive option, while public minibuses are the cheapest but will take the longest and require transfers. 
 
Private taxi or airport transfer
  • Best for: Convenience, speed, and direct, door-to-door service, especially for those with luggage.
  • Time: 45-60 minutes, depending on traffic.
  • Cost: Approximately $25-$35 USD per taxi for up to four people.
  • How to: You can book a private transfer in advance or arrange a taxi at the airport. Apps like Bolt.eu also operate in the area. 
 
Shared shuttle
  • Best for: A balance between convenience and cost.
  • Time: Approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.
  • Cost: Around $12-$13 USD per person.
  • How to: Book a shuttle service in advance. Note that some shuttle services have been cited as unreliable. 
 
Public minibus (“taxi”)
  • Best for: Budget travelers.
  • Time: About 1 hour and 40 minutes, not including wait times or stops.
  • Cost: Around $1.70 USD per person, plus potential transfer costs.
  • How to: Take a public minibus from Entebbe town to a taxi park in Kampala. This may require changing buses along the way. Be aware that these can be crowded and drivers may be reckless. 
 
Driving
  • Best for: Those with their own vehicle.
  • Time: Approximately 35-45 minutes.
  • Cost: A toll is required on the Kampala-Entebbe Expressway. A Class 2 vehicle (car) toll is around 5,000 UGX.
  • How to: Use the Kampala-Entebbe Expressway, which connects directly to the Northern Bypass.
